Summary: Perris High School’s (PHS) Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Coordinator, Gypsi Perez, has requested approval for AVID's annual Northern California college trip for her Sophomore and Junior members on February 25 - March 2, 2019. Approximately 50 students will be visiting 17 college campuses over the six-day trip. The list of colleges/universities on their itinerary is as follows: UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, CSU Monterey Bay, UC Santa Cruz, Stanford, San Francisco State, Sonoma State, San Jose State, UC Berkeley, CSU East Bay, UC Davis, Sacramento State, CSU Stanislaus, Chico State, UC Merced, CSU Fresno, and CSU Bakersfield. Ms. Perez is in the process of adding more schools in the Northern California region to this list of colleges and universities in order to give students the opportunity to experience various college campuses and programs available to them if they continue academic excellence.

The purpose of the trip is to introduce different college campuses to the students. Many of the students have participated in day trips to Southern California campuses but some students wish to attend colleges further away from home such as in Northern California. The main focus of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is attending college. This trip will motivate the students to keep up their grades and stay in AVID.

Cal State Chico has adopted all three Perris Union High School District's high schools (Perris, Heritage and Paloma) as sister campuses. These University students go above and beyond to help our students be accepted to their school.

The 50 students and 5 adults will be transported by a charter bus at the cost of approximately $8,000, which will be paid for via the Local Control Accountability Plan Supplemental and Concentration (LCAP) funds. The per person cost is approximately $250 which will be paid by the AVID Associated Student Body (ASB) account via student fundraising.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2018-19 operating budget funded through Local Control Accountability Plan Supplemental and Concentration funds, the AVID Associated Student Body (ASB) account and by student fundraising.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for Perris High School's Advancement Via Individual Determination students to visit Northern California college campuses on February 25 - March 2, 2019.
