Summary: The Board of Trustees previously approved, and the District has undertaken, the facilities project known as the “Perris High School Phase 2B Project,” which consists of the construction of a new single story kitchen, student union, culinary arts, and classroom building.

During its April 20, 2016, meeting the Board of Trustees approved the contract with RW Smith and Company in the amount of $1,291,613, for the kitchen equipment required in the Perris High School Phase 2B project. Additionally, on April 18, 2017 Change Order No. 1 was approved in the amount of $157,277.68 which increased the RW Smith contract to $1,448,890.68. The kitchen equipment included in RW Smith’s original bid was based on the plans and specifications developed by WLC Architects for the Phase 2B Project. These plans were developed in coordination with former Nutrition Services staff. Upon further review, the Facilities Department has requested additional changes to the kitchen equipment. This change includes necessary changes to sink and dishwashing facilities, an additional sink hose reel, changes to the countertops, modifications to a service counter and the addition of a drop in, refrigerated well. Change Order No. 2 is based on a comprehensive review by the District's Director of Nutrition Services. This change is necessary to ensure the kitchen equipment meets the needs of the Nutrition Services Department at Perris High School. The cost of this change is to be included in Change Order No. 2 for RW Smith and Company in the amount of $77,502. This change order will increase RW Smith and Company’s contract to $1,526,393.52.

The ratification of Change Order No. 2 with RW Smith and Company is necessary in order to meet critical project timelines and negate undue delay of the project. Ratification of this change order is permitted for Board approved facilities projects pursuant to Purchasing Policy.

Education Codes 17604 and 17605: The Governing Board delegates the power to contract and purchase supplies, equipment and services.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2017-18 operating budget funded through the Facilities Fund, Fund 21.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve Change Order No. 2 for the Perris High School Phase 2B Project with RW Smith and Company.
