Summary: The District's Professional Development Team is requesting approval to attend the Summit on Professional Learning Communities (PLC) At Work, which will be held in Phoenix, Arizona on February 19-21, 2019. The Summit on PLC At Work is an exciting opportunity for the District’s Professional Learning Community Teams at each site to build and sustain strong, collaborative, and effective PLC’s. This unique event brings together the brightest and most respected minds in education to assist administrators, principals, and teachers in providing practical knowledge based on the three big ideas that drive a PLC:

1) Focus on Student Learning
2) Collaborative Cultures at Work
3) Results Orientation.

These topics will be delivered by experts in the field who know the process best, dynamic keynotes and powerful breakouts are designed to assist our administrators, principals, and teachers in infusing the PLC at Work process into every aspect at our school sites.

The Summit boasts the knowledge of Tim Brown, Robert Eaker, Cassandra Erkens, Douglas Fisher, Sharroky Hollie, Timothy D. Kanold, Thomas W. Many, Mike Mattos, Anthony Muhammad, Regina Stephens Owens, Julie A. Schmidt, Sarah Schuhl, Eric Twadell, and Philip B. Warrick. Attending this summit will not only create opportunities for the District and our school site principals and teachers to further develop their best practices in the classroom, but it will assist us as a collaborative district to achieve equity, elevate learning, and create parent engagement efforts that will continue to guide our students in their college and career aspirations.

Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2018-19 operating budget funded through Title I Professional Development in an amount not to exceed $46,515.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the out-of-state conference request for the Districtwide Professional Learning Community Teams to attend the Summit on Professional Learning Communities at Work, to be held in Phoenix, Arizona, February 19-21, 2019.
