Summary: California Military Institute's JROTC’s Instructor, Major, CACC Joseph Ali has submitted an amended request to have sixty-seven (67) CMI cadets participate in the Annual JROTC Cadet Advance Leadership Challenge Camp in Fort Irwin, California, April 23-26, 2020.

The purpose of this encampment is to give JROTC students the opportunity to master outdoor skills and to learn leadership in small group settings, curriculum related training in small group settings, as well as curriculum related training that would qualify cadets for ribbons and awards. Sixty-seven (67) cadets and eight (8) chaperones from CMI will be participating in this annual leadership camp.

Lodging, transportation and meals will be provided by the United States Army Cadet Command at no cost to the students. Lodging will be in military style barracks and transportation will be via contracted civilian buses.

The amended request is being brought forward due to Major, CACC Joseph Alo not factoring in the cost of meals for the cadets and chaperones. The change in the amount is from $500 to $4,000.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2019-20 operating budget funded through the California Military Institute CMD-MOU Fund, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the amended overnight field trip request for California Military Institute cadets to attend the Annual JROTC Cadet Advance Leadership Camp in Fort Irwin, California, April 23-26, 2020.
