Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our district-wide course catalog. When a course is discovered to be outdated or lack sufficient information, then a request is sent to the teacher(s) to update the course. At this time we are submitting new choir courses.

To break down the various levels of skill and the voice pitch Choir has been broken down into three sections: Beginning Treble Choir, Intermediate Treble Choir, and Bass Choir. All of these new courses meet the A-G Requirement for the College Board.

Beginning Treble Choir will help students develop the basics of choral music for new singers in an environment dedicated to the upper voice range. Singers will be able to establish the fundamentals of choral music such as proper vocal technique and health, music theory, music history, music literacy and performance etiquette. This course was written for grades nine through twelve.

Intermediate Treble Choir is an advanced level auditioned vocal ensemble comprised of singers of the upper range of voices (soprano and alto). Singers in this ensemble are dedicated to singing and studying music from a variety of time periods, cultures, training their voices using healthy singing techniques, and learning and applying elements of music theory. The previous Choir course is required. This course was written for grades ten through twelve.

Bass Choir is a non-auditioned vocal ensemble comprised of singers of the lower range of voices (tenor and bass). Singers in this course will learn the fundamentals of singing in a choir, proper vocal technique and health, music theory, music history, music literacy and performance through the study of a wide variety of choral music written for lower voices. Emphasis is placed on the practice of vocal technique as it applies to the changing voice. This course was written for grades nine through twelve.

The Beginning Treble Choir course, Intermediate Treble Choir course, and Bass Choir course have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
