The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our district-wide course catalog. We are submitting four revised Career Technical Education(CTE) courses in the RCOE Public Services Sector: RCOE Law Enforcement Principles & Practices, RCOE Forensics & Crime Scene Investigation, RCOE Exploring the US Criminal Justice System, and RCOE Emergency Medical Technician. All four of these courses meet the UC/CSU A-G Requirement āGā. RCOE Law Enforcement Principles and Practices This course is designed to give students interested in a career in Law Enforcement an opportunity to learn about various aspects of police work and the career avenues available. This is the Introduction course to the Public Safety Pathway. This course can be articulated with Mount San Jacinto College course AJ102 Introduction to Law Enforcement. RCOE Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation is designed to give students both theoretical and experiential experiences in a fast-paced, rigorous, multidisciplinary college preparatory course that provides an association between science-based inquiry and the criminal justice system. The emphasis is on understanding the underlying scientific theories of forensic science, with particular emphasis on biology and chemistry. This is the Concentration course for the Public Safety Pathway. RCOE Exploring the Criminal Justice System is the study of the American legal and justice system. Emphasis is placed on the court system and how it relates to the criminal justice system. The United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, and landmark Supreme Court decisions are studied and critiqued in depth. This is the Capstone course for the Public Safety Pathway. This course can be articulated with Mount San Jacinto College course AJ111 Criminal Procedures. The RCOE Emergency Medical Technician is a year-long academically challenging course that is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the healthcare industry. This course takes students on a fascinating journey beginning with history, future, and components of the emergency system, the well-being of the EMT, legal and ethical issues, and medical terminology. This is the Capstone course for the Emergency Response Pathway. This course can be articulated with Mount San Jacinto College course EMS 090-Emergency Medical Technician and Riverside Community College District Course EMS 50-Emergency Medical Technician and EMS 51-Emergency Medical Services. Student Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on clinical and field internships consisting of (12) hours each. The above courses have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
