Summary: Jane Scibilia, instructor at the California Military Institute (CMI), is submitting an overnight field trip request for 30 of their student leaders to attend the California Association of Student Leaders (CASL) State Conference in Ontario, California, April 7-9, 2018.

The mission of CASL is to provide a statewide network that facilitates the development of ethical, responsible, and servant leaders. CASL’s initiative is to inspire, equip, and empower students to be effective future leaders of the world. They have invited associated student body student leaders to the state conference for three days of inspiration, networking, and learning many ways to lead their campus in a positive direction. From the world-renowned speakers to the wide variety of over 25 effective workshops, special program rotations, region meetings, “Meet the Pro’s” and their own special State Service Project to pay it forward and give back, the students will return to the campus as an energized and changed student leader.

This is CMI’s third year as an organized ASB (Associated Student Body) where CMI students get to participate in the CASL conference. The students are excited for the opportunity to attend this conference that will teach them leadership skills, how to run a successful student government, and how to run successful fundraisers. They are also looking forward to networking with other students who are also in student governments. Ms. Scibilia is excited about gaining a wealth of information for both herself and her students. The students attending will relay the information and skills that they learn to the rest of the ASB members.

The CASL conference will also provide a number of advisor networking opportunities throughout the conference. It will be a great place/time for Ms. Scibilia and the other CMI adults to exchange ideas, meet other advisors, and get rejuvenated for the rest of the school year.

The 30 students will be accompanied by six adults. The cost is approximately $400 per person, which includes registration, housing, and meals. Transportation will be provided by CMI site vans.
