It is requested that the Board of Trustees approve Dr. Jose Luis Araux, President of the Board of Trustees to attend the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference in San Antonio, Texas, on June 25-28, 2017. Dr. Araux will be able to collaborate and learn alongside the group of twenty-four educators from the District who will also be attending ISTE 2017.
The ISTE Conference provides professional development opportunities for anyone who works in education. This national conference has professional development sessions in the form of lectures, panel discussions, hands-on or bring-your-own-device sessions, leadership meetings, product showcases, remote interactive videoconferences, and many workshops on various educational technology practices. This conference covers themes such as School Improvement, Technology Infrastructure, Professional Learning, Digital Age Teaching and Learning, and Virtual Schooling/E-learning. District attendees would be joining approximately 17,000 other educators at the event.
Participants at ISTE 2017 have opportunities to collaborate on the articulation of a vision for districts in implementation of educational technology, a vision for districts to provide support and training for their staff, and a vision to empower staff in the use of educational technology for student achievement. There is also a large focus on technology and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). ISTE has been instrumental in the success of the roll-out and ongoing implementation of educational technology at the District.

The cost for this item is included in the 2016-17 operating budget funded through Title 1 Professional Development funding, not the General Fund.
