Master Sergeant Frank Puebla, Paloma Valley High School’s NJROTC Instructor, has submitted a request to send 45 cadets to represent Paloma Valley High School (PVHS) at the NJROTC National Drill Competition at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, that will be held April 5-9, 2017.
In the past three five years, PVHS NJROTC has qualified to compete in what is considered the State Championship Drill Competition in which the top three finishers are invited to compete at the National level. Last month, the PVHS NJROTC qualified at regionals to attend the National ROTC Super Bowl in Pensacola, Florida. This year is the second time in the history of the PVHS NJROTC program in which they finished in a place that rated an invitation to Nationals in Florida.
Normally a trip like this would cost approximately $900 per student which would total $45,500 for the group. However, Master Sergeant Puebla has arranged for military transportation at no cost, for the students to have permission to eat at the base chow hall for $20 (for 5 meals each), and secure lodging for approximately $70 per room with four cadets to a room. Bus transportation is provided free of charge by the Navy in Pensacola.
The Navy will also reimburse the district for trip costs. The minimum they will pay is $7,000 up to a maximum of $13,000. The estimated projected costs are under the $13,000.
This is an overnight field trip of five nights, with 45 students, and 5 adult chaperones. Transportation will be provided via district bussing from Paloma Valley High School to the Naval Air Station in Miramar/San Diego, then via shuttles from the airport in Florida to the hotel. All expenses will be paid from the NJROTC ASB Account.
