Summary: The District would like to contract with Solution Tree, Inc. for professional development services in order to deliver customized training to support administrators, team leaders, and teachers with what is increasingly recognized as the most powerful strategy for sustained, substantive school improvement. Session one will include a one (1) day session for administrative training that will focus on how administrators, support the PLC at Work process in their schools. Administrators will review tight vs. loose leadership and identify key areas where these concepts are critical to supporting Professional Learning Communities at their schools. In addition, the session will include strategies such as establishing a guiding coalition, supporting an effective collaboration, aligning PLC at Work practices in order to support school improvement plans and other initiatives, and troubleshooting implementation challenges.

Session two will include six (6) days for teachers as well as administrators that will work to customize the Professional Learning Communities for each site based on the current PLC at work reality. The sessions will focus on deepening teachers’ understanding of the PLC at Work processes and address critical next steps to further implementation. Each session will build on previous trainings and strategies provided. The District would like to build capacity among site teachers and administration in creating effective schools that function as a Professional Learning Community. When this is done, educators within the organization embrace high levels of learning for all students which increases student learning outcomes. These training sessions will take place during the 2019-20 school year. The trainings will include a total of seven (7) training sessions, one (1) exclusively for site administrators, and six (6) for all teachers and site administrators. Included in the training are specific strategies to facilitate collaborative conversations around student learning, creating common assessments in all content areas, and procedures to support the development of academic interventions for students.
Funding: The cost for this item will be included in the 2019-20 operating budget funded through the Low Performing Schools Block Grant, not the General Fund.
