Summary:
|
Per Education Code 17582(a), the Governing Board of a school district may establish a restricted fund to be known as the “Deferred Maintenance Fund.” This fund will be for purposes including, but not limited to, major repair or replacement of plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, electrical, roofing, and floor systems; the exterior and interior painting of school buildings; the inspection sampling, and analysis of building materials to determine the presence of asbestos-containing materials; the encapsulation or removal of asbestos-containing materials; the inspection, identification, sampling, and analysis of building materials to determine the presence of lead-containing materials; and the control, management, and removal of lead-containing materials. Funds deposited in the District Deferred Maintenance Fund may be received from any source and shall be accounted for separately from all other funds and accounts and retained in the District Deferred Maintenance Fund for the purposes listed above.
With the upcoming sale of the District’s 11 South D St. Property, it is necessary to re-establish the “Deferred Maintenance Fund” as the proceeds are required to be deposited into this restricted fund in compliance with Education Code 17462 (a). The “Deferred Maintenance Fund” was previously closed in 2012 as a result of guidance from the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) due to the State no longer providing funding for Deferred Maintenance.
