Summary: Perris High School’s Agriculture teacher, Douglas Cousins, has submitted an overnight field trip request for ten of Perris High School's Future Farmers of America (FFA) students and two adults to attend the Arbuckle FFA Field Day Competition, which will be held on the Arbuckle High School campus, in Arbuckle, California, February 3-5, 2017. The Arbuckle FFA Field Day event is held prior to the Chico Field Day, and this year some of the competitions that are normally held at the Chico event have been cancelled, which opens up the door to experience particular competitions only at the Arbuckle event.

FFA members attending the competition will be able to visit with other FFA members from throughout the state, as well as leaders from other states and the National FFA. Attendees will be focusing on objectives such as: participating in a Career Development Event that will enhance their skills, develop leadership skills through interaction with other members, create friendships with other members from various chapters in California, receive awards and honors for hard work and achievements in their contest area, and be exposed to seeing new cultures and experience new places.

Exposure to this competition will enhance our students’ ability to perform at a higher level and in turn enhance skills and knowledge in their given contests. It will also enable them to earn higher awards and placements in future competitions.

Twenty students and five adults will attend the Arbuckle FFA Field Day. Transportation will be provided via District vehicles. The estimated cost is $40 per student and $70 per adult. All expenses will be paid from the Perkins Grant and Associated Student Body fundraising.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2016-17 operating budget funded through PHS’s Perkins Grant fund, and by student fund-raising/ASB account.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for Perris High School Future Farmers of America students to attend the Arbuckle Field Day Event at Arbuckle High School, in Arbuckle, California, February 3-5, 2017.
