Summary: As provided for in the State Budget Act, Governor Newsom has provided funds to assist the California Military Institute (CMI) and its programs. Specifically, the California Military Department (CMD) will provide at no cost to CMI or the District, one (1) Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) and an additional seven (7) military cadre personnel. The eight (8) assigned CMD personnel will be responsible to assist CMI in facilitating the Military Science Program at CMI. The NCOIC shall report directly to the Commandant/Principal of CMI for Operational Control (OPCON) which involves the daily activities at the school and is tasked with the accomplishment of the mission and the seamless integration of the Military Science Program into the overall academic course offerings at CMI. The NCOIC is responsible for providing CMI with a military environment and training program that will:

1) Develop leadership traits in students
2) Emphasize teamwork by students
3) Foster student physical fitness
4) Reinforce life skills and promote the likelihood of future success
5) Instill self-discipline in students

In addition, the CMD will provide $50,000 in annual funding for CMI. These funds will be used for support of operating expenses as CMI sees fit, necessary, and in support of its programs and responsibilities. This may include but is not limited to education for students, camps, training, transportation, uniforms, and awards.

The term of this Agreement shall be from July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2022.

The Agreement is being brought forward as a ratification due to the untimely receipt of the new Agreement from the California Military Department.
Funding: The budget will be adjusted to reflect this revenue.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees ratify the Memorandum of Agreement between the California Military Department, Perris Union High School District, and the California Military Institute.
