Summary: California Military Institute teachers Jane Scibilia, Brian Dirkswager, Anthony Maldonado, Luis Valdovinos, Tomeryl Collier, Dana Lane, along with their Principal, Michael Rhodes and Assistant Principal, Tate Burns, are requesting approval to attend the California Association of Directors of Activities (CADA) State Convention in Reno, Nevada, February 28 - March 3, 2018.

The California Association of Directors of Activities began when a few student council advisors got together to share common problems and solutions. Since that weekend in 1957, CADA has grown into the largest statewide support network for Activity Directors in the nation.

The CADA holds an annual conference providing workshops and presentations targeting teachers who work with middle school and high school leadership students. The conference attracts participants from all over the United States, wanting answers to questions like “How do I design activities promoting a safe learning environment?”; “What about activities supporting academic, social and personal development in accordance with federal guidelines?”; “Can we capture the hearts of our students so they will look forward to attending school and as a result lower the dropout-rate?” The answers to these questions and much more are found at the CADA Conference.

In the current educational climate, the status quo is no longer enough to ensure a safe and successful learning environment for our students. CADA knows teachers and administrators desire to do something more. Attendance at the 2018 CADA Convention can provide staff with the tools to facilitate:

1) A physical environment that is welcoming and conducive to learning

2) A social environment that promotes communication and interaction

3) An affective environment that promotes a sense of belonging and self-esteem

4) An academic environment that promotes learning and self-fulfillment

The CADA provides an abundance of workshop sessions targeting Common Core Standards. The convention will be providing empowering, passionate, inspiring and committed leadership philosophies that will begin, enhance and complete the CADA program. The CADA will focus on several aspects of our schools which include improving the culture and climate by infusing leadership philosophies that are aligned with Common Core Standards. Curriculum is designed to include school’s entire educational team.
