Summary:

Paloma Valley High School teachers, Jennifer West and Maria Schmidt, have submitted an out-of-state conference request to attend the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Summit 2017, in Orlando, Florida, on October 22-25, 2017.
Mrs. Schmidt and Mrs. West were selected to be workshop presenters at the PLTW National Summit this year. Their session is called "AVID Lead the Way - The Joy of Using Interactive Notebooks in your Project Lead the Way class." The conference is a great opportunity for them to support and promote AVID, PLTW, and the PUHSD. The PLTW Summit 2017 also offers networking opportunities and sessions that are directly applicable to their ongoing work.
The two ladies are seeking the Board’s approval to cover the registration fee and travel expenses, including hotel accommodations and meals. As workshop session facilitators, the total registration expense for the PLTW Summit 2017 is reduced by 50 percent, which is an incredible value considering the comprehensive array of opportunities. The total estimated cost for both is $3324, which would be funded through Title I - Professional Development.
The PLTW Summit presents an opportunity for Mrs. West and Mrs. Schmidt to enhance their skills in the classroom while strengthening contacts in the S.T.E.M field. Their attendance at this conference will be a professional investment in developing streamlined practices, real-world solutions and a network of peers to call upon.

The cost for this item is included in the 2017-18 operating budget funded through Title 1 Professional Development funding, not the General Fund.
