Summary: The District's Educational Services Department is submitting three new Riverside County Office of Education/Career Technical Education (CTE) courses titled CTE Auto Service Technician I, CTE Auto Service Technician II, and CTE Auto Service Technician III. All three of these courses are part of the CTE Public Safety pathways and are all year-long courses.

CTE Auto Service Technician I, CTE Auto Service Technician II, and CTE Auto Service Technician III are new courses which will lead students to an industry certification and provide a foundation for post-secondary education or training. These courses will also provide students with the opportunity to apply and extend concepts studied in their math and science classes to the automotive technology industry. CTE Auto Service Technician I, CTE Auto Service Technician II, and CTE Auto Service Technician III are designed to further enhance student skills that will be used in entry level employment.

The CTE Auto Service Technician I course meets the UC/CSU requirements under the G requirement. This course is the first in a series of three which will provide students the opportunity to apply and extend concepts studied in their math and science classes.

The CTE Auto Service Technician II course focuses on brakes and suspension for enhancement in the automobile service industry. This course does not meet A-G requirements.

The CTE Auto Service Technician III course will provide students with the opportunity to study an engine's performance and enhance classroom training. Students will also receive on-the-job-training at a community work site. This course does not meet A-G requirements.

These courses have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. These are pre-approved courses by the Riverside County Office of Education and only require one reading by the Board of Trustees.
