Summary: Renee Garcia, Associated Student Body (ASB) Advisor at Heritage High School, is submitting an overnight field trip request for thirty six (36) of Heritage High School's Student Council Members to attend the California Association of Student Leaders (CASL) State Conference in Santa Clara, California, April 5-8, 2019. This is in conjunction with the California Association of Directors of Activities (CADA) conference for the Advisors of Associated Student Body clubs.

The mission of CASL is to provide a statewide network that facilitates the development of ethical, responsible, and servant leaders. CASL’s initiative is to inspire, equip, and empower students to be effective future leaders of the world. They have invited ASB student leaders to the state conference for three days of inspiration, networking, and learning many ways to lead their campus in a positive direction. Students will hear from world-renowned speakers, choose from a wide variety of over 25 effective workshops, attend special program rotations and region meetings, “Meet the Pro’s” and create their own special State Service Project to pay it forward and give back.

The students excitedly look forward to the opportunity to participate in the CADA/CASL conference where they will learn leadership skills, how to run a successful student government, and how to run successful fundraisers. They will also have the opportunity to network with other students from throughout the state who share their interest in student government. Ms. Garcia will gain a wealth of information for herself and her students. The students attending are ASB Council Members.

The thirty six students will be accompanied by four teachers, Renee Garcia, Timothy Poseley, Samantha Avne, and Amanda Bates as their chaperones. The cost is approximately $395 per student and $475 per teacher, which is funded by the Associated Student Body via student fundraising. Transportation will be provided by a District van.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2018-19 operating budget funded through the HHS ASB account in the amount of $16,120.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for Heritage High School students to attend the California Association of Student Leaders Annual Conference in Santa Clara, California, April 5-8, 2019.
