Summary: Alison King, ASB Advisor at Paloma Valley High School, is submitting an overnight field trip request for eight (8) of their student leaders to attend the California Association of Student Leaders (CASL) State Conference in San Jose, California, April 1-3, 2017. This is in conjunction with the California Association of Directors of Activities (CADA) conference for the Advisors of Associated Student Body (ASB) clubs.

The mission of CASL is to provide a statewide network that facilitates the development of ethical, responsible, and servant leaders. CASL’s initiative is to inspire, equip, and empower students to be effective future leaders of the world. They have invited Associated Student Body student leaders to the state conference for three days of inspiration, networking, and learning many ways to lead their campus in a positive direction. Students will hear from world-renowned speakers, choose from a wide variety of over 25 effective workshops, attend special program rotations and region meetings, “Meet the Pro’s” and create their own special State Service Project to pay it forward and give back.

The students are excited for the opportunity to participate in the CADA/CASL conference where they will learn leadership skills, how to run a successful student government, and how to run successful fundraisers. They are looking forward to networking with other students from throughout the state who share their interest in student government. The two advisors will gain a wealth of information for themselves and their students. The students attending are juniors who are class leaders with ASB, Link Crew, and the PLUS program. These leaders will relay the information and skills that they learn to the rest of the members.

The eight students will be accompanied by two adults. The cost is approximately $375 per person, which is funded by the Associated Student Body. Transportation will be provided by a District vehicle.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2016-17 operating budget funded through the PVHS’s ASB account.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for Paloma Valley High School students to attend the California Association of Student Leaders Annual Conference in San Jose, California, on April 1-3, 2017.
