Caleb Moen, Director of Instrumental and Choral Music at Heritage High School, respectfully submits a request for two (2) drum major students to attend the United Spirit Association (USA), California Drum Major Camp at the California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California, July 11-14, 2019.
The objective of this camp is to grow success in leadership and performance for drum majors. The USA's Leadership Program is relevant, practical and designed to support the Band Director. The camp is designed for beginners to the most advanced skill levels, including eleven (11) levels of instruction and technique rooted in fundamentals and tailored for each region's style.
Heritage High School's two (2) student drum leaders will be taught how to lead, conduct, administer small rehearsals, and develop other leadership skills that will help them grow as young adults. This is a four (4) day, three (3) night camp that specifically teaches commands, conducting, leadership, conflict resolution, musicianship, and marching techniques. Providing this opportunity to these students will not only benefit them as a leader, but it will also spread throughout other leadership positions established within the band program and will ultimately lead to a successful marching season.
The two (2) students will be staying in a dorm type housing with up to four (4) students per room. Room checks will be done to ensure curfew is met and maintained. All meals are included. Transportation is being provided by each student's parent or guardian. Students will be supervised by USA's camp staff and coaches.

The cost for this item will be included in the 2019-20 operating budget funded through Heritage High School's Associated Student Body Band Account, not the General Fund.
