Subject: 14.2 BUSINESS: Proposed Process to Select a Name for High School #4
Strategic Plan:
Enclosure
File Attachment:
Summary: Staff is recommending a process be established to determine a name for High School #4 in Menifee. Should the Board of Trustees authorize a local bond measure to be placed on the November 2018 ballot, construction on High School #4, as the first priority project, would commence in early 2019 and would be open for students and staff in August 2021. Given this possibility, Board Policy 7310 provides direction regarding the process for naming of District school facilities. Key elements within this policy suggest, “The Board encourages community participation in the process of selecting names” and “a citizen advisory committee shall be appointed to review name suggestions and submit recommendations for the Board's consideration.”

In order to initiate discussion among members of the Board about this important issue, a presentation will be provided to include:

1) A brief overview of Board Policy 7310
2) Ways to promote community involvement and participation in the naming process
3) Suggested composition of the citizens advisory committee
4) Anticipated timeline/meeting schedule for the committee
5) Suggested overall timeline to complete the naming process for High School #4.

Staff requests direction from the Board so that the naming process for High School #4 can be initiated.
Funding: There is no fiscal impact to this item.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees provide direction to staff regarding the process to be utilized to name High School #4.
