Summary: Perris High School’s (PHS) JROTC’s Instructor, Major Jaime Longoria, U.S. Army (retired) has submitted a request to have 35 PHS JROTC cadets participate in the 15th Annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge Camp in Fort Irwin, California, on March 16-20, 2018.

The purpose of this annual encampment is to give high school JROTC students the opportunity to master outdoor skills and to learn leadership in small groups, as well as curriculum-related training that will qualify cadets for ribbons and awards.

This training will assist cadets to improve communication skills and learn a variety of tasks that include: map reading, land navigation, leadership training, survival skills, first aid, teamwork, and physical fitness. The JROTC organizes this multi-school encampment each year to provide students with an opportunity to practice and enhance their skills. Only those students who excel and are currently in good standing are allowed to participate. Thirty-five cadets and four chaperones from PHS will be participating in this annual leadership camp.

Lodging, transportation and meals will be provided by the United States Army Cadet Command at no cost to the students. Lodging will be in military style barracks and transportation will be via contracted civilian buses.
Funding: There is no fiscal cost.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for Perris High School JROTC cadets to attend the 15th Annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Camp at Fort Irwin, California, March 16-20, 2018.
