Summary: Heritage High School’s agriculture teacher, Maggie Maratsos, is requesting approval for the Future Farmers of America (FFA) students to attend the "Made for Excellence/Advanced Leadership Academy", January 26-27, 2018, in Ontario, California.

This is a two-day conference with simultaneous sessions. The "Made for Excellence" sessions are geared toward the 10th grade FFA students, and the "Advanced Leadership Academy" sessions are geared toward the 11th grade FFA students.

The purpose of this two-day conference is to build interpersonal communication skills, develop students' leadership capabilities, and enlighten members of the opportunities offered in Agriculture Education and the FFA.

Representation at this Leadership Academy enables Heritage High School to continue participating in FFA sponsored activities and allows students the ability to run for Regional and State FFA offices, as well as retain eligibility for agricultural and specialized grants.

Seventeen (17) students and two (2) adults will attend the conference. Transportation will be provided via District vehicles. The conference entry fees, transportation costs, and lodging costs will be paid from Associated Student Body fundraising and the Perkins Grant. Cost per person is $100 with a total cost equaling $1,900.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2017-18 operating budget funded through the Perkins monies, Fund 06, and the Agriculture ASB account.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for Heritage High School's Future Farmers of America students to attend the "Made for Excellence/Advanced Leadership Academy", January 26-27, 2018, in Ontario, California.
