Summary: Joseph Alo, Senior Military Instructor, has submitted a request for two (2) overnight field trip requests for CMI cadets to participate in the following trainings on the California Military Institute campus during the 2019-20 school year:

October 4-6, 2019: Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (NCOA) to be held at the California Military Institute. The purpose of NCOA is to train the cadets on how to become and lead as a non-commissioned officer within the California Cadet Corps and CMI. This academy will also teach them the core fundamentals of Non-Commissioned Officership, such as how to utilize leadership traits, how to train junior cadets, and how to work with them as a non-commissioned officer. The NCO cadets will experience a safe, military style learning environment. It is anticipated that approximately thirty (30) cadets will participate in the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, with a minimum of three (3) adults chaperoning. There is no cost for cadets attending the NCOA. Food will be funded through the California Military Institute CMD-MOU fund at a total cost not to exceed $1,000.00.

November 8-10, 2019: Officer Candidate School (OCS) to be hosted at the California Military Institute. The purpose of OCS is to train noncommissioned officers of the California Military Institute how to become and lead as a commissioned officer within the California Cadet Corps and CMI. This training will also teach them the core fundamentals of Commissioned Officership, such as how to utilize leadership traits, how to train junior cadets, and how to work with them as an officer. The OCS cadets will experience a safe, military-style learning environment. Cadet instructors, adult staff, and OCS cadets will arrive after school at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2019 prior to the candidates arriving for preparation. There is no cost to the cadets for attending this event. Food will be funded through the California Military Institute CMD-MOU fund at a total cost not to exceed $1,000.00.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2019-20 operating budget funded through the California Military Institute CMD-MOU Fund, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip requests for California Military Institute Cadets to attend the Non-Commissioned Officer Training, October 4-6, 2019 and the Officer Candidate School, November 8-10, 2019 at the California Military Institute.
