Summary: The Perris Union High School District (PUHSD) Board of Trustees authorized the 2020-21 school year to begin in a distance learning model. In order to support high quality teaching and learning, the District would like to contract with Instructure for the purchase of Canvas Studio.

PUHSD already uses Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), a fully featured, cloud-based platform that has interoperability with third-party tools. Canvas Studio is one of those third-party tools and will allow teachers to create video recordings with screen capture, webcam or both, upload existing video files to their studio library, embed media files in any course content, and use a quiz tool that allows teachers to add questions and interactivity into videos.

The term for this Agreement is from August 1, 2020 through June 30, 2023.

The cost for this three (3) year Agreement is $38,760 for the 3-year term and will be split between the District and the California Military Institute (CMI) based off of the projected enrollment percentages for each school year. The cost for all three (3) years is to be paid up front to lock in current pricing. The total cost for the District will be $35,208. The total cost for CMI will be $3,552 which will be billed as a direct cost to CMI per the Memorandum of Understanding between the PUHSD and CMI.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2020-21 operating budget through the Federal CARES Act Learning Loss Mitigation Fund, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the Multi-Year Agreement with Instructure for the purchase of Canvas Studio.
