Summary:
|
The Riverside County Education Collaborative (RCEC) is an innovative partnership in the Inland Empire formed in July 2014 in response to a request by the US Department of Education to help more students prepare for and graduate college. The RCEC LEA Implementation Network will expand upon the work identified by the Riverside County Education Collaborative in order to collectively address Riverside County’s extremely low college-readiness and enrollment rates. At the center of this network includes a strong partnership between local area school districts and Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) with each participating district’s members. Each partner has created and committed both school site and district level teams to focus on the college and career readiness initiatives. District’s level of commitment includes monthly meetings, participation in extended professional development, and participation in all RCEC focused initiatives (ex: College Signing Day). All stakeholders have made a collective commitment to increase college enrollment and success rates for all students through efforts such as:
1. Expanding access to college-level work and advanced coursework opportunities, particularly for low-income or other at risk students.
2. Improving college guidance, counseling, and career exploration for students, particularly first-generation college going students.
3. Strengthen professional development for secondary school counselors, and improving alignment of high school course work with college expectations.
The term of the initial Agreement was July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2019 with revenue in the amount of $20,000 over the life of the Agreement. Modification No. 1 extends the term of the Agreement through September 30, 2019 due to RCEC being given an extension to spend the grant funding.

It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve Modification No. 1 to Agreement No. C1006512 between Riverside County Superintendent of Schools and Perris Union High School District for participation in the Riverside County Education Collaborative.
