Summary: Heritage High School is submitting an overnight field trip request for 37 of their student leaders to attend the California Association of Student Leaders (CASL) State Conference in San Jose, California, April 1-3, 2017.

The mission of CASL is to provide a statewide network that facilitates the development of ethical, responsible, and servant leaders. CASL’s initiative is to inspire, equip, and empower students to be effective future leaders of the world. They have invited Associated Student Body student leaders to the state conference for three days of inspiration, networking, and learning many ways to lead their campus in a positive direction. From world-renowned speakers to the wide variety of over 25 effective workshops, special program rotations, region meetings, intra-states, “Meet the Pro’s” and their own special State Service Project to pay it forward and give back, the students will return to the campus a changed student leader.

Heritage High School’s student leaders will benefit from this conference by the leadership lessons and skills they learn at the CASL conference throughout their high school careers and beyond. They will be offered opportunities to learn more about their place in creating a positive, comfortable school culture where all students are empowered to raise their voices and participate.

The 37 students will be accompanied by at least four adults. The cost is $375 per student and $350 per adult, with a total cost equaling $15,275. All expenses are being covered by Heritage High School's Title I and Associated Student Body funds. Transportation will be provided by a chartered bus.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2016-17 operating budget funded through HHS’s Title I funds and Associated Student Body funds.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for Heritage High School students to attend the California Association of Student Leaders State Conference in San Jose, California, April 1-3, 2017.
