Summary:
|
The District would like to enter into an Agreement with Equation 2 Success to facilitate student focus groups and discussion groups for students at our three (3) comprehensive high schools: Heritage High School, Paloma Valley High School, and Perris High School. Dr. Kimi Wilson, along with Lee Alfred, Mark Harrell, and Juan Santos will develop common themes that surface as a result of student interviews and discussion around equity issues relating to access and success in course selections and programs. The inclusion of the students’ voice is designed to create authentic engagement and roundtable facilitation regarding District educational practices that are inquiry-based, culturally relevant, and equity-seeking. Through these focus groups, we will seek to empower our student population in shaping their foundational experiences with our District in order to combat the systemic inequity in education. Our focus is to develop an educational and instructional capacity for our students in order to successfully implement State and national standards. Upon completion of each focus group, Dr. Wilson will provide data dives and strategic planning to empower instruction and student learning throughout the District. Dr. Wilson will provide nine (9) sessions total, which will include one (1) session per school site to provide the results of his findings. Dates for the 2019-20 sessions will be determined by each site.

The cost for this item is included in the 2019-20 operating budget funded through the Local Control Accountability Plan Supplemental and Concentration Funds, not the General Fund.
