Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our district-wide course catalog. When a course is discovered to be outdated or lack sufficient information, then a request is sent to the teacher(s) to update the course. At this time we are submitting new and revised Theatre courses.

Theatre 1 - Previously called Drama I. Theatre 1 is a course for all of the high school grade levels. The class is designed for students with little or no theatre experience to develop an appreciation for all aspects of theatre. Class work will focus on the exploration of theatre, literature, performance, historical and cultural connections, and technical requirements. Theatre 1 provides opportunities for students to develop skills in critical listening and thinking as well as stage presence, ensemble work, and aesthetic awareness. Theatre 1 was revised to update the curriculum and name. The course meets the University of California “F” and California State University “Visual and Performing Arts” requirements.

Theatre 2 - Previously called Drama II. Theatre 2 is intended for tenth through twelfth grades. Students will have had to take Theatre 1 as the prerequisite and be currently enrolled in Dance. Theatre 2 is for students who wish to continue to study and develop their knowledge of theatre arts on a more challenging level. Students will apply the study of theatre vocabulary, reading and writing of theatre, literature, acting and technical theatre. Theatre study at this level will place a greater emphasis on the execution of skills, ensemble work, and collaboration with other student artists. Theatre 2 was revised to update the curriculum and name. The course meets the University of California “F” and California State University “Visual and Performing Arts” requirements.

The above courses have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
