Summary:
|
Andrew Ellis, Heritage High School (HHS) math teacher and basketball coach, is respectfully submitting a request for the Board’s consideration of the Heritage High School’s Boys Varsity Basketball team to visit Vanguard University of Southern California.
Vanguard University is ranked 12th for colleges in the Western Region and their men’s and women’s basketball teams are ranked in the top five in the nation. The HHS Basketball Team would have an opportunity to tour the university as well as experience a top-level college basketball game.
This is a great opportunity for the boys basketball team to experience a college atmosphere both as students and athletes, as well as spark their interest in pursuing college after high school. It is an ideal way for our student athletes to see how college players balance academics and athletics at such high levels. The HHS team will be actually playing with the Vanguard team in both practices and games, and will end their trip by watching one of the college competition games.
Coaches Andrew Ellis and Myron Peyton will be supervising the 15 team players. Coaches will travel with contact information, insurance, and all medical clearance forms for each player. The team will be staying at the La Quinta Inn in Costa Mesa. Estimated total costs of $65 per person will be covered by the HHS Boys’ Basketball Associated Student Body account.
