Summary:

Paloma Valley High School’s NJROTC is submitting a request to have five of their cadets participate in the NJROTC Area 11 Sail Academy, which is being held at the Naval Base Coronado, Fiddler’s Cove Marina, in San Diego, California. The Sail Academy is offered for three different sessions: June 15-18, 2018, June 20-23, 2018 and June 25-28, 2018. Paloma’s NJROTC will be taking a total of five (5) cadets over the three session dates, attending one session each.
The Sail Academy is a training opportunity for upcoming leaders pursuing sea-based careers. The Sail Academy experience will further cadets’ training in areas of leadership, teamwork, communications, decision-making, critical thinking skills and physical fitness. On the water skills will include swim/drown-proofing, paddle boat handling (stand up paddle and kayaks), small sail boat handling (16’ sailboats), large sailboat handling (22’, 25’ and 27’ fixed keel sailboats). This is a wonderful chance for the cadets to learn how to sail while building their teamwork skills.
Cadets will be dropped off and picked up at the Sail Academy location by their parents/guardians. Cadets are scheduled to camp on the beach at the Marina in large multi-purpose tents, with male and female chaperones.
The cost for the cadets to attend the NJROTC Sail Academy is $200 per cadet. All expenses will be paid for by the ASB/NJROTC.

The cost for this item is included in the PVHS 2017-18 operating budget funded through the NJROTC ASB account.

|
It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip request for five Paloma Valley High School NJROTC Cadets to participate in the Sail Academy at Fiddler’s Cove, in San Diego, California, during the various sessions of June 15-18, 2018, June 20-23, 2018 and June 25-28, 2018.
