Summary: Jodhi Gahre, teacher at Paloma Valley High School, has submitted two Riverside County Office of Education/Career Technical Education (CTE) courses titled CTE Fashion Merchandising and CTE Art of Fashion. The two courses are part of the CTE Fashion Design and Merchandising Pathways and are all year-long courses for eleventh and twelfth grade students.

The CTE Fashion Merchandising course prepares students with the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for employment in fashion merchandising and the marketing of fashion apparel. Students will use a variety of historical, cultural, and artistic influences that have impacted the evolution of fashion from the emergence of the very first clothing (functional/survival) through various important eras of Western Civilization. This course will cover teaching students to identify the symbolism of color, color terms, color schemes, and the color wheel so they may apply them to the concepts of the fashion industry.

The CTE Art of Fashion course will teach the importance of the creative aspects of the fashion industry and how creative expression along with historical and cultural context work together in the industry. The students will not only create projects but will be able to tie them back to cultural and historical influences. They will be able to use and identify the principles and elements of design in both pieces of art and fashion. The purpose of this course is to have students understand the importance of the creative aspects of the Fashion Industry and how creative expression along with historical and cultural context work together in the industry.

CTE Fashion Merchandising and CTE Art of Fashion have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. These are pre-approved courses by the Riverside County Office of Education and only require one reading by our Board of Trustees.
