Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our districtwide course catalog. When a course is discovered to be outdated or lack sufficient information, then a request is sent to the teacher(s) to update the course. At this time we are submitting the revised Language Arts 7 and Language Arts 8 courses.

The Language Arts 7 and Language Arts 8 courses are designed to prepare students for mastery of the California Common Core grade level Standards in English Language Arts.

Language Arts 7
The Language Arts 7 and Language Arts 8 courses are being revised to align with the Common Core State Standards using materials from the most recent State Board of Education (SBE) adoption for English Language Arts. All current 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA teachers piloted two SBE approved programs this fall. Each teacher implemented a unit of study in each program. The committee selected Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, California Collections in a vote of 15 to 3.

The revised Language Arts 7 and Language Arts 8 courses have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
