Joseph Alo, Senior Military Instructor, has submitted a request to have the California Military Institute’s (CMI) cadets participate the ROTC/JROTC Physical Training Championships that will be held in Brooks, Oregon, on October 26-30, 2017. This is the 2nd Annual Physical Training Championships and the first time that CMI has been invited to participate. Sixteen cadets and four adults will be driving up in district vans to the championships.
On Thursday, October 26th, they will depart from CMI at 7:00 a.m. and will drive up to Red Bluff, California, (approximately 580 miles) where they will stay the night at a hotel, then drive the remainder of the distance (another 400 miles) on Friday, October 27th, arriving in Salem, Oregon at approximately 3:00 p.m. The 16 students consist of eight males and eight females who will stay in hotel rooms with 4 students per room (same gender).
The cadets and adults will be staying in free lodging at the American Legion in Salem. On Saturday they will head to the Physical Training Championships being held at Chemeketa Community College, in Brooks, Oregon. The events for the day will consist of the U.S. Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) 2 mile run, sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups and a 300 meter run. After the day’s festivities, the cadets will be treated to a complimentary Yellow Ribbon dinner.
On Sunday, October 29th, the group will head back on the road, stopping in Red Bluff again and arriving at CMI on Monday, October 30th at approximately 7:00 p.m.
The estimated total cost of the trip is $1,552 which is being funded through the Drill/PT/JROTC Associated Student Body account.
