Summary:
|
School, family, and community partnerships are an integral factor in the quality of a student’s education. The Perris Union High School District’s LCAP Goal #4 is to secure and strengthen home-school-community connections and communications.
Our Community Engagement Specialist, Sonia Rezkalah, and our Bilingual Community Liaison, Alice Kelly, have been working with our school sites to take a more meaningful approach to connect with our families and with our community partners. Both Sonia Rezkalah and Alice Kelly will benefit from The Families Learning Conference in Tucson, Arizona, October 9-11, 2017, by exploring innovative strategies in family literacy and learning, expand their professional learning network and gain best practices in parent and family engagement.
Research shows that all parents want their children to succeed in school; however, not all parents know how to best support their children in education. Our goal is to build a trust with our families, create a sense of community and build partnerships that will positively influence our student’s educational success.

The cost for this item is included in the 2017-18 operating budget funded through Title 1 Professional Development funding, not the General Fund.

It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the out-of-state conference request for Sonia Rezkalah and Alice Kelly to attend the National Center for Families Learning Conference in Tucson, Arizona, October 9-11, 2017.
