Summary: The Sustainability Symposium for Education Facilities consists of new and upcoming flooring types and systems. Topics that will be covered are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) sustainable standards as it relates to flooring materials. A visit to the Tandus Centiva flooring plant will include carpet recycling process, flooring installation and a maintenance demonstration. By attending this conference, the Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations will learn the cost of ownership as it pertains to utilizing the proper maintenance procedures as it relates to dirt recovery and allergens as well as the effect of Prop 65 compliance on the flooring industry and the opportunity to bring back concepts that promote proper maintenance procedures and productivity. In addition, the symposium will provide a hands-on experience how flooring relates to the quality of the learning environment and new ideas for workplace design, thereby continuing the District’s efforts of creating a safe work environment. All costs associated with this conference, including airfare and lodging are paid by Tandus Centiva.

Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the out-of-state conference request for Michael Slipich, Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations to attend the Sustainability Symposium for Education Facilities on November 2-5, 2017 in Dalton, Georgia.
