Summary: The Educational Services Department requests approval to offer the following new science courses: Science 9 and Genetics.

Science 9 will teach students the basic principles of Physics and Earth/Space science through experimentation and engineering practices designed for introductory level, conceptual physics. Classic science principles of forces, motion, waves, energy conversion, and nuclear processes will be explored through both Earth and space science phenomena as well as classical and modern physics principles. This course is written for grade nine.

Genetics will provide students with the scientific aspects of their physical make-up transmitted from a previous generation. This course is meant to be an elective with biology as a prerequisite of biology. Students will leave this course with a greater understanding of the mechanisms that drive how traits are passed on from generation to the next and how those traits are coded from the informational molecule of DNA. This course was written for grades ten through twelve.

The Science 9 course and Genetics course have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
