UCR MESA 17-18 MOU.pdf
Summary: The mission of Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) Program is to enrich the pre-college math and science environment, and stimulate greater student interest in math, science and engineering. The participation in the MESA program is being requested for Paloma Valley High School. The MESA Program seeks to enroll a diverse group of students reflective of the school’s diversity and balanced by the enrichment and support needs of prospective participants. All prospective participants must demonstrate a commitment to preparing for college. The Regents of the University of California will pay a modest stipend of up to $800 for participation in MESA events, trainings and meetings beyond contractual responsibilities to the District. The MESA Advisor’s participation in MESA trainings and meetings is essential to effective implementation of MESA services and events. The stipend amount, dependent on the funding allocation and availability for the year, will be prorated based on attendance at trainings, meetings and participation in MESA events. In addition, classroom supplies will also be provided in the amount of $500. Amount is contingent on teaching a dedicated section that will use the MESA curriculum.

The term of this Agreement will be from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018.

This Agreement is being taken to the Board as a ratification due to the untimely receipt of the contract from the Regents of the University of California.
Funding: The budget will be adjusted to reflect this revenue.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees ratify the Agreement with the Regents of the University of California for the Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement Program.
