Summary: Mr. Jeremiah Perotti, Heritage High School (HHS) agriculture teacher and Future Farmers of America (FFA) advisor, has requested approval for HHS FFA to send up to a maximum of seven (7) of their officers and one instructor to represent the California FFA at the 2018 National FFA Convention that will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 22-30, 2018.

The Heritage High School FFA will be represented at the 2018 National Future Farmers of America Convention by two curent FFA (student) members and up to five recent graduates of HHS. Those who have graduated in prior years will be funding their own transportation to the Nationals. Heritage High School FFA would be sending one agricultural instructor, Mr. Jeremiah Perotti, to attend alongside the student FFA members as they represent the California FFA.

Qualifying to attend Nationals is a very prestigious accomplishment. This is the third time in the history of the HHS FFA that they have won a state champion and have been able to go to Nationals. They actually have two state champions qualified for the 2018 event. Along with the two state champions, there are five American Degree recipients who are all graduates of HHS and are still HHS FFA members.

While at the FFA National Convention, in addition to the voting sessions, FFA members gather to listen to some of the best motivational speakers in the country, honor one another's accomplishments during award ceremonies, and recognize those who have made outstanding contributions to the organization. FFA members leave each session with a renewed commitment to premier leadership, personal growth and career success.

Mr. Perotti would travel with the California FFA and state FFA students and staff to the National Convention for the week in October. The California Association of Future Farmers of America offers approved group travel packages with a variety of benefits for the trip participants, including round-trip airfare, lodging, ground transportation to and from the airport in Indiana, and reduced conference registration fees. As part of this trip, students would also get to see and experience educational tours of Washington D.C. with other California FFA members. Student costs will be handled through fundraising; and, the funding for the teacher to attend would be provided by HHS’s categorical monies.
Funding: The cost of this item is funded through student fundraising and HHS’s Title I Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the out-of-state field trip request for Heritage High School's Future Farmers of America Officers and advisor to attend the 2018 National Future Farmers of America Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 22-30, 2018.
