Summary: Six new Riverside County Office of Education/Career Technical Education (CTE) courses titled “CTE Digital Film Production I”, “CTE Digital Film Production II”, “CTE Digital Film Production III”, “CTE Creative Digital Media”, “CTE Audio Technology” and “CTE Digital Photography II” are being submitted. These are all year-long CTE courses. All six of these courses meet the UC/CSU A-G Requirement “F” and/or “G”.

“CTE Digital Film Production I” This course focuses on the aesthetic qualities of television and movie production and analyzes the impact of digital video technology as an alternate form of communication in today's society. Students will convey creative expression and develop ideas individually or within a group, compose an outline/proposal of a historical and or cultural nature, and write a script from the outline. Meets UC/CSU “F” requirement.

“CTE Digital Film Production II” provides students with the opportunity to deepen and broaden their knowledge of the television and film production industries, its history, and the careers involved within through visual presentation, insightful analysis of film through reflective critiques, and by creating visual entertainment and thought-provoking media. Students will gain further training in the area of on-screen talent through the writing and performance of scripts. Meets UC/CSU “G” requirement.

“CTE Digital Film Production III” is a course designed to provide students with the opportunity to use their knowledge of the video and film production industries, and the careers involved within, to manage industrial video projects, pitch marketing ideas and concepts to potential clients, and to create, as well as execute, business proposals in marketing to clients. Students will gain further training in the areas of marketing and business related skills, as it relates to video and film production. Meets UC/CSU “G” requirement

“CTE Creative Digital Media” begins by looking at art, and studies the process of art creation in various subjects and mediums throughout history. Students will be taught the importance of art as a means of expression and communication and the way art impacts society and culture. Skills learned will relate to current careers in visual arts. Meets UC/CSU “F” requirement.

“CTE Audio Technology” focuses on the aesthetic qualities of sound production in the studio and live environment. It will analyze the impact of digital and analog audio technology as a vital part of communications in the world today. Meets UC/CSU “F” requirement.

“CTE Digital Photography II” is designed for the intermediate to advanced photography student and those enrolled in AP Art Studio. It is tailored to reflect each individual student's need for a more advanced and rigorous curriculum. Finally, there is also a concentration on preparing images for the web and basic website maintenance. Each student's focus will culminate in a photography portfolio tailored to the career of his or her choice. Meets UC/CSU “F” requirement.

The creation of these courses are necessary in order to continue the current articulation of our Arts, Media, and Entertainment pathway.

“CTE Digital Film Production I”, “CTE Digital Film Production II”, “CTE Digital Film Production III”, “CTE Creative Digital Media”, “CTE Audio Technology”, and “CTE Digital Photography II” have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
Funding:
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees receive for review and information, the new Career Technical Education courses: Digital Film Production I, Digital Film Production II, Digital Film Production III, CTE Creative Digital Media, CTE Audio Technology, and Digital Photography II. Since these are pre-approved courses by the Riverside County Office of Education they do not require a 2nd reading.
