Summary: The California Military Institute (CMI) would like to contract with Corwin Press, Incorporated for professional development services in order to build capacity among site teachers and administration in Literacy Development. These workshops will aim at closing the literacy achievement gap in order to increase student literacy skills in all academic areas. Through her area of expertise in Common Core Implementation, Qualitative Factors That Affect Text Complexity, The Role of Coaching in Instructional Improvement, Close Reading, and Writing From Sources, Dr. Nancy Frey will provide professional development to CMI who will craft their own instructional plans to develop effective practices to support increasing literacy across the charter school.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2019-20 operating budget, funded through the California Military Institute Low Performing Students Block Grant, not the California Military Institute General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the Professional Consultant Services Agreement with Corwin Press, Incorporated.
