Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our district-wide course catalog. At this time we are submitting three revised Career Technical Education (CTE) courses in the RCOE Arts, Media, and Entertainment Sector: RCOE Digital Film Production I, RCOE Digital Film Production II, and RCOE Digital Film Production III. All three of these courses meet the UC/CSU A-G Requirement “F”.

RCOE Digital Film Production I focus on the aesthetic qualities of television and movie production and analyzes the impact of digital video technology as an alternate form of communication in today's society. Students will convey creative expression and develop ideas individually or within a group, compose an outline/proposal of a historical and or cultural nature, and write a script from the outline. The completed project will be a video product based on their script and storyboards. Students will also write and produce television shows in a variety of formats. Students will also study the impact of digital video on our society from a social, economic, and political viewpoint. Students will learn the history of moviemaking and technological advances in the art form. This is the Introduction course for the Production and Managerial Arts - Film/Video Production Pathway. This course can be articulated with Riverside City College course FTV 67-Intro to Video Production.

RCOE Digital Film Production II offers students the opportunity to gain a profound knowledge of the television and film production industries, its history, and the careers involved. This occurs through visual presentations, insightful analysis of film through reflective critiques, and by creating visual entertainment and thought-provoking media. Students will also become knowledgeable of the inner workings of on-screen talent through the development and performance of scripts. Students will gain further technical training in the design and critique of motion graphics and pictures as well as understand the psychological impact this digital media will have on their audience of film trade-name knowledge further technical digital media. This course can be articulated with Riverside City College course FTV 65-The Director’s Art in Film Making. This is the Concentration course for the Production and Managerial Arts - Film/Video Production Pathway.

The RCOE Digital Film Production III course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to use their knowledge of the video and film production industries, and the related careers, to manage industrial video projects. Students will also be able to pitch marketing ideas and concepts to potential clients as well as create and execute business proposals to clients. As a result, students will also be trained in marketing and business skills, as it relates to video and film production. Students will gain additional technical training in the design and critique of motion graphics and pictures, as well as understand the psychological impact that digital media will have on their clients' potential audience. This is the Capstone course for the Production and Managerial Arts - Film/Video Production Pathway.

The above courses have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
