Summary:

The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our district wide course catalog to align to the California Common Core State Standards (CA CCSS). During the 2018-19 school year, the English 9th and 10th grade teams reviewed new curriculum options from a variety of publishers. The teams narrowed down the options and piloted materials during second semester. The schools involved in the pilot were Perris High School, Heritage High School, Paloma Valley High School, and the California Military Institute in the areas of English Language Arts grades 9 and 10. Each teacher in the pilot received a class sets, Teacher Resource Kits, and copies of the student workbooks for each of the courses. The piloted units are listed above. All 9th and 10th English teachers were invited to participate in the evaluation process and their responses were compiled to make the final decision. Listed below are the names of the textbooks that the English Department has chosen: Course(s): Grade 9 - English I, Pearson My Perspectives Grade 10 - English II, Pearson My Perspectives. The proposed English textbooks have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. Attached for the Board’s review: 9th Grade Evaluation 10th Grade Evaluation 9th Grade Team Feedback 10th Grade Team Feedback (Likert scale scores 5 outstanding-1 unsatisfactory). Upon approval, all English 9th and 10th grade English courses will be revised to align to the new textbook adoption.

It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the adoption of the Pearson English textbooks: Grade 9 - English I, Pearson My Perspectives and Grade 10 - English II, Pearson My Perspectives.
