Summary: The District would like to request ratification of the Agreement with ConnectED, The National Center for College and Career, to create a collaborative partnership to co-design long term strategies for systematic pathway changes). The vision for Liberty High School is to establish four Smaller Learning Communities (SLC), each with a decentralized administration, teacher professional center and a Center of Applied Learning (CAL), or pathway. Each SLC and CAL allows for personalized learning experiences using broad industry themes to engage students. Now that Ms. Erika Tejeda, Principal, has been hired and the school is scheduled to open in August of 2021, there is a sense of urgency to take the plans that were developed with input from a myriad of stakeholders and operationalize the plans based upon current realities.

ConnectED will provide a linked learning college and career readiness orientation to the district leadership and the SLC/CAL design team, validate the labor market and post-secondary assets in the region, develop each SLC/CAL for Liberty High School, provide information for a communications and marketing plan, and support the principal and District leadership in successfully developing each SLC/CAL at Liberty High School.

The term of this Agreement shall be from September 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

This item is being brought forward as a ratification due to the need to move forward with SLC/CAL development for Liberty High School, opening in August 2021.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2020-21 operating budget funded through Various Facilities Funds, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees ratify the Agreement with ConnectEd for Small Learning Community/Pathway design services for Liberty High School.
