Summary: The District's Educational Services Department is submitting a new course titled Latin/Mexican-American Studies for high school students. The Latin/Mexican-American Studies course meets A-G requirements and is a year-long course.

Latin/Mexican-American Studies is a course that has a major focus on the Mexican American culture. In this course, students will learn about key occurrences and historical figures that have made an impact on Mexican and other Latin American civilizations and traditions. Students will learn where Latinos and Mexican-Americans have made significant contributions to the American cultural landscape.

The purpose of this course is to teach students the value of the Latin/Mexican-American culture. Students will also learn to acknowledge diversity and respect different cultures. This course will provide college bound juniors and seniors an elective course in the History/Social Studies Department.

The Latin/Mexican-American Studies course has been reviewed and approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
