Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our district-wide course catalog. When a course is discovered to be outdated or lack sufficient information, then a request is sent to the teacher(s) to update the course. At this time we are submitting new and revised Naval Science courses.

Naval Science 3 - previously JROTC 3 at PVHS is designed to develop responsible citizens who practice respect of self, others and the environment as demonstrated by the ability to make and meet personal, career, and social commitments. Cadets will be able to self-evaluate, and self-reflect in order to assess their strengths and weaknesses. They will demonstrate the ability to make better decisions leading to self-correction, goal setting and success. Situationally aware of self and surroundings, cadets will demonstrate the adaptability to meet the needs of a changing workplace by utilizing technology and collaborative skills. Naval Science 3 was revised to update the curriculum and name. The course meets the University of California “T” and California State University “Elective” requirements.

Naval Science 4 - previously JROTC 4 at PVHS is an elective fourth year capstone course. Focussing primarily on practical leadership techniques and implementation. The intent is to assist seniors in understanding leadership and improving their leadership skills by putting them in positions of leadership, then helping them analyze the reasons for their varying degrees of success and evaluation of performance. Students become aware of the techniques used to create motivation, develop goals and actions for a work group, and learn the proper ways to set a leadership example. Naval Science 4 was revised to update the curriculum and name. The course meets the University of California “G” and California State University “Elective” requirements.

The above courses have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
