Summary: The Board of Trustees previously approved, and the District has undertaken, the facilities project known as the “Perris High School Agricultural Facility Phase 2 Project,” which consists of the construction of a two story classroom building.

During its April 20, 2016 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the contract with Caston, Incorporated in the amount of $800,000 for the provision of work associated with wall framing, gypsum and plaster in the Perris High School Agricultural Facility Phase 2 Project. Due to schedule delays caused by the Category 05B steel contractor, Change Order No. 5 in the amount of $43,946.45 is necessary. These delays included additional mobilizations, project sequencing inefficiencies, extended rental on equipment, and increased labor expenses. This change order has been extensively reviewed by the District's Director of Facilities, WLC Architects and Neff Construction and has been determined to be fair and reasonable. The cost of this change is to be included in Change Order No. 5 for Caston, Incorporated in the amount of $43,946.45.

The ratification of Change Order No. 5 with Caston, Incorporated is necessary in order to meet critical project timelines and negate undue delay of the project. Ratification of this change order is permitted for Board approved facilities projects pursuant to Purchasing Policy.

Education Codes 17604 and 17605: The Governing Board delegates the power to contract and purchase supplies, equipment and services.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2017-18 operating budget funded through the Facilities Fund, Fund 21.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve Change Order No. 5 for the Perris High School Agricultural Facility Phase 2 Project with Caston, Incorporated.
