Summary: Education Code Sections 3503(g), 42130 and 42131 require the Board of Trustees to certify at least twice a year the Perris Union High School District's ability to meet its financial obligations for the current and two subsequent fiscal years. This certification is done through the interim reporting process. The 2017-18 Second Interim Report is for the period ending January 31, 2018, and is being presented to the Board for action. In addition to Interim Reports stating the District’s ability to meet its financial obligations, they are also a mechanism to evaluate ongoing state and/or district budget issues, as well as to make adjustments to the operating budget to reflect actual activity. Interim Reports are reviewed by the County Office of Education and the State Department of Education in accordance with the state adopted Criteria and Standards, which are contained within the Interim Report.
Funding: There is no fiscal impact to this item.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees authorize a positive certification of the 2017-18 Second Interim Financial Report, which certifies that based on current projections the Perris Union High School District will meet its financial obligations for the current and subsequent two fiscal years.
