Summary:
|
The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our districtwide course catalog. With the implementation of California Common Core State Standards (CA CCSS), the process takes several years. At this point in time we are looking at the math textbook adoption phase. This will be followed with the next phase of revising the math courses to align with the new textbooks. During the 2015-16 school year, the math department spent second semester narrowing down the textbooks to two publishers to be piloted the following year. Starting the 2016-17 school year, the teachers began piloting either McGraw Hill or Pearson publications. The schools involved in the pilot where Perris High School, Heritage High School, Paloma Valley High School, and the California Military Institute in the areas of Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. The pilot also involved Pinacate Middle School and California Military Institute in the areas of Math 7, Math 8 and Algebra 1. Each site received four class sets (120 books per course), four Teacher Resource Kits (per course), and class sets of support workbooks for each of the courses. All math teachers were invited to participate in the evaluation process and their responses were compiled to make the final decision. Listed below are the names of the textbooks that the Math Department has chosen. Course(s): Math 7 and Math 7 Support Textbook: envision 2.0 Grade 7; Publisher: Pearson. Course(s): Math 8 and Math 8 Support; Textbook: envision 2.0 Grade 8; Publisher: Pearson. Course(s): Intro to Algebra 1, Algebra 1, Algebra 1a/b, Algebra 1 Support; Textbook: Algebra 1 Common Core; Publisher: Pearson. Course: Geometry; Textbook Title: Geometry Common Core; Publisher: Pearson. Course: Algebra 2; Textbook Title: ALGEBRA 2; Publisher: Pearson. The proposed math textbooks have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
